What are you training for?

After meeting with a casual gym goer recently and discussing her training and lack-of-results, I quickly realised that she had been exercising in the gym for several years, 6-days a week without any particular purpose or focus point. Sure she was fitter than when she started, and probably more flexible and stronger BUT her body shape had not changed and the number of the scales still read the same.  She was frustrated and ready to chuck the towel in. Unfortunately though and as I explained to her, this is very common amongst gym patrons and quite often personal training clients too.  When we fail to set a goal or a time frame to achieve these goals within, we lack the direction and sense of urgency to make the necessary changes in order to reach our goal destination.  Make sure you set yourself training goals and be open with your trainer about wanting to achieve them and understand that to change your body shape you will need to make changes to your training AND nutrition!
