Do diets really work? In a one word, simplified answer, NO – they don’t.

Just by hearing the word “diet” automatically generates feelings of hunger, restrictive eating and deprivation of your favourite foods. It’s not pleasant and nor are the end results of most fad diets. Commonly, people who go on diets are people looking for a quick-fix, for an easy way out and ultimately an answer to their long term weight battles.  However, they choose the diets offering the shortest timeframe and the biggest results!  It’s an equation that just doesn’t stack up!

Long term restrictive eating and energy deprivation has all sorts of harmful effects to our metabolism and hormones, particularly in women which ultimately make it a lot harder for us to loose weight.

When I see a new client and we discuss a weight loss goal I always like to ask them to think about the amount of time it took them to get into the shape that they’re in at present.  Then, to re-evaluate their expectation for the length of time it will take them to shed this weight.  Usually it is years and years of poor food choices and inactivity that has led to them being in this shape, and unfortunately a quick “14-day detox diet” is not going to un-do all their weight loss woes.
